Self-defense class proves to be a big hit in Peru

Posted by wlpo on March 28, 2015

Apparently a lot of women are ready to kick some butt if called upon in the Illinois Valley.

In a matter of minutes after announcing a 2-hour women’s self-defense class, the 20 allotted spots filled up. So Peru Police Chief Doug Bernabei says more self-defense classes will be held due to popular demand.

Patrol sergeant Sarah Raymond and Detective John Atkins are the self-defense instructors. They’ll cover areas like: situational awareness; grip-breaking techniques; and choke escapes.

The first class will be at the Peru Y June 10th.
