Successful St. Baldrick’s event held in Mendota

There are two dozen people in the Illinois Valley walking around with a newly shaved head.

Twenty-four people had their heads shaved Wednesday night at a St. Baldrick’s event sponsored by the Mendota Firefighters Local 4200. Over $8,000 was raised to benefit St. Baldrick’s efforts in fighting childhood cancer.

They exceeded the fundraising goal of $5,000.

Two Bureau County teens among the dozens arrested at alleged drinking party

This could be the underage drinking party to end all underage drinking parties.

Kewanee Police and Henry County deputies say they raided a drinking party Wednesday night in rural Kewanee. A total of 51 underage drinkers were arrested. Of the 51, two are from Wyanet, Lauren Peterson and Kalie Rumbold.

Others arrested came from as far away as Iowa, Indiana, Missouri and Wisconsin. Everyone was released with court dates.

Receptionist named IVCH employee of the year

Connecting with patients and giving it her best every day are reasons why Lynn Romagnoli has been named the Illinois Valley Community Hospital Employee of the Year.

Diagnostic Imaging Director Cindy Herrmann nominated Romagnoli for the award saying she is truly compassionate with patients and her caring comes across loud and clear. Romagnoli works in the diagnostic imaging department as a records specialist and receptionist.

She lives in La Salle and has worked at IVCH for 22 years.
