Oglesby man turns himself in for sexual abuse charges

Accusations of sexual contact with a person younger than 18 have a man in Oglesby facing criminal sexual abuse charges.

Marshall Brennen the 3rd of Oglesby turned himself into the police Thursday afternoon. Brennen was wanted on a La Salle County warrant for three counts of criminal aggravated sexual abuse.

Brennen posted $75,000 for bond and is free and awaiting a court date.

Peru man arrested for allegedly claiming to have a bomb

Claim you have a bomb and it will be taken seriously. A student at Illinois Valley Community College was arrested Thursday morning after allegedly making a statement Wednesday evening that he had a bomb in his book bag.

Oglesby Police Chief Jim Knoblauch says Robert Jasper of Peru was searched by campus security Wednesday evening. No bomb was found. The investigation was given to the Oglesby Police Thursday morning.

Jasper faces a charge of felony disorderly conduct and is being held in the La Salle County Jail.

Neil Simon set to music is the latest production at Stage 212

A love story with a twist and a lot of song opens Friday at Stage 212 in La Salle. “They’re Playing Our Song” was written by Neil Simon and is directed by Joe Ennenbach.

It stars familiar Stage 212 actors, Daniel Haun and Emily Hank.

Performances are this Friday and Saturday nights and Sunday afternoon and next Friday and Saturday nights and Sunday afternoon. Five treated for unjuries after crash on Route 251

The intersection of Route 251 and La Salle County Highway 23 near Apple Press is steady with traffic on most weekday afternoons. Thursday afternoon was no different when a van crashed with a car and snarled traffic.

Police say Eliyohu Langsam of Peoria disobeyed a traffic control device. Five people in the van were taken to Illinois Valley Community Hospital in Peru for minor injuries. Langsam was given a ticket.

Traffic was backed up while police were handling the crash.
