Small percentage of medical marijuana applications approved so far

Posted by wlpo on January 8, 2015

CHICAGO (AP) – Have you signed up to be a medical marijuana patient? The state approved 50 new patient applications for medical marijuana last month, bringing the total to 650 patients with complete paperwork.

Almost 13,000 people have registered online and started an application. Qualifying patients pay an annual fee of $100 for a marijuana card. Patients aren’t allowed to grow their own cannabis, and, for now, are waiting for the legal industry to start up.

The state hasn’t yet revealed which businesses will be picked to grow and sell medical marijuana, but that announcement could come soon. The Illinois Valley is expected to get one cultivation center and one dispensary.
