Fundraising group looking forward to bringing new features to Peru park

Posted by wlpo on January 8, 2015

Saturday was a day for members of Friends for Peru Pool to celebrate. The group and city officials announced that Peru is receiving a $256,000 state grant for a splash pad. Applying for the grant was an effort that included Friends for Peru Pool and engineers designing park features that would attract people of all ages to Washington Park.

Claudia Mikyska is a member of Friends for Peru Pool. She says they were very involved with the design of the splash pads and expects them to stay involved.

She says the splash pad, volleyball court, bocce ball court and parking are part of what they’re calling phase one. Phase two would include a swimming pool.

Friends for Peru Pool is contributing $100,000 toward the grant match. The match will take most of the money they’ve been able to raise, but Mikyska is hopeful that more people donate after they see things actually being done.

The group is already planning their next fundraiser.
