Area man to be recognized for putting out a fire in Peru

A fire has started in your kitchen but you alone can’t put it out. What do you do? You shout for help.

A woman in Peru had an Illinois Valley Waste Services worker come to her aid on December 16. Her stove had started on fire. Jamie Levi was able to put the fire out before the fire department arrived.

Levi is being recognized by the Peru City Council at 7:30pm Monday.

Tickets issued following an accident in Mendota

Driving away from an accident, even a minor accident, could get you a couple of extra tickets. Mendota Police arrested Amanda Kirby at her home early Saturday morning after they say she left a crash at Lincoln Avenue and 16th Street.

Kirby was ticketed for leaving the scene, improper lane usage, driving with a suspended license and not wearing a seatbelt.
