Rollover in Peoria kills teenage girl from Sparland

A teenage girl from Sparland is dead after the Chevy Suburban she was riding in crashed in Peoria.

Peoria County Coroner Johnna Ingersoll says 17-year-old Danielle Smith was pronounced dead at the scene of a crash near Detweiller Park just after 8 Saturday night. Smith was a passenger and was thrown from the SUV after the driver hit a curb and lost control. The driver and five other teenage passengers were taken to Peoria hospitals with non-life threatening injuries. Everyone in the SUV was between 16 to 18 years old.

Ingersoll says Smith was pronounced dead less than an hour after the crash. An autopsy was scheduled for Sunday with toxicology tests to follow.

The Peoria Police Department is investigating the crash.
