Long concedes in race against Mautino

The wait is over in the race the 76th State Legislative District. Two weeks and a day after the November 4 election, Republican Jerry Long of Streator has conceded to Democrat Frank Mautino, the incumbent.  Long says he called Mautino Wednesday.

The race was close but even after waiting for the absentee and provisional ballots to be counted, Mautino maintained a lead of more than 330 votes.  Long hasn’t ruled out another run in 2016.

Mendota man killed during pickup truck crash

A crash early Wednesday morning outside of Troy Grove killed a man from Mendota.

36-year-old Lance Musgrove was heading north on Interstate 39 around 2:42am when investigators say he lost control of his pickup truck. His truck rolled several times before stopping in a ditch. Musgrove was dead at the scene.

The Illinois State Police and the La Salle County Coroner’s office are investigating.

Streator Police investigate burglaries

Televisions, a porcelain doll, and a lockbox are a few of the things reported stolen out of homes in Streator. At least three people went to the police Monday after items were stolen from their homes.

As it would be, three people were arrested for residential burglary Monday afternoon. They were Jennifer Johns of Niles, Nicholas Miller of Chicago, and Christina Costello of Chicago. Police haven’t said yet if they are thought to be responsible for the burglaries.
