Depending on where you are shopping in Peru, a developer could be receiving a cut of the sales tax. That’s the case with some of the businesses in the Peru Market Place, the shopping area that includes Wal-Mart.
City officials will be making a couple of changes to the sales tax agreement it has with the developers. The changes will be the topic of two public hearings Monday night. The first meeting is at 6:45pm to be followed by another hearing at 7pm.
The city has been rebating half of the Municipal Retailers’ Occupation Tax and other Home Rule tax. The agreements are being changed to rebate half of the Municipal Retailers’ Occupation Tax only and to extend the time the developer has to receive the $900,000 incentive.
