Fire burns harvested field near Tonica

Posted by wlpo on November 1, 2014

A windy day is never good for fighting a fire but the Tonica and Leonore Fire Departments were able to put out a field fire before it grew too large.

The fire started Friday afternoon on North 1929th road. Rick Turri of the Tonica Fire Department says approximately one acre of harvested corn field was burning when they arrived. He says they were able to quickly contain the fire with the help of a farmer.

They believe the fire started from crop debris that had collected on a piece of equipment being used in the field.
