More than 200 National Guard soldiers who served in Kuwait are back home. A celebration was held in Springfield, IL Saturday afternoon to welcome home the 108th Sustainment Brigade. Members of the brigade spent 10 months overseas providing mission command and logistical support for operations of service members and civilians in Kuwait, Afghanistan and Iraq.

National recognized fire chief announces resignation

Fire chief Mike Vaughn who won state and national awards for his response to theĀ Washington, IL tornado back in 2013 has announced his resignation. He spoke with local volunteer firefighters and emergency medical technicians Thursday night about his decision. His resignation is effective Nov. 1st, the day after a 90-day extension to his contract expires. Vaughn had been trying to negotiate a new contract with the board but according to Vaughn the board wanted to reduce his salary from $80,000 to $45,000.
