Kinzinger supports Obama’s plan to fight ISIS

You have heard a lot of disagreement between President Barack Obama and House Republicans, but the man that represents you in Congress says he is with the president when it comes to fighting ISIS.

A vote Wednesday to allow the U.S. military to train and arm some Syrian rebels passed the House. Republican Congressman Adam Kinzinger was among the supporters. He says he’s surprised that other members of the House were against it.

Kinzingers says he wanted the United States to begin bombing ISIS targets earlier this year. He’s an U.S. Air Force veteran of Iraq and Afghanistan.

La Salle man accused of selling cocaine

A drug deal can happen anywhere, even at a popular spot for ice cream. Officers with the drug team TRIDENT arrested Larry Chandler of La Salle after he allegedly sold cocaine to an undercover agent.

Police say it happened Wednesday in the parking lot of Frank’s Cigar Store in La Salle. They say the arrest came after a long investigation.

Chandler is being held in the La Salle County Jail with his bond set at $1 million.

Check arrives after concert organizer in Peru comes under fire

If you were fired up at Concerts for a Cause organizers not giving money to Centennial School in Streator, a check has arrived.

A check for $3,300 showed up at the school Tuesday from Lou’s La Grotto. Merry Noonan had previously sent the school a letter saying the Uproar Festival concert last month left a huge deficit and no money to give. About 50 volunteers from the school helped out at last month’s concert.

The concert series started in 2005 and has raised money for various causes including schools, relay for life and care packages for overseas troops.

Petition drive to clean up I&M Canal in Utica

Do you think online petitions are effective? The latest attempt to have something done with Utica’s stretch of the I&M Canal involves a petition.

Chris Miller with the Utica Business Association didn’t think a simple letter to Senator Sue Rezin or State Representative Frank Mautino would do much to draw attention to what he calls an eyesore. He thinks the algae-filled, canal should be dredged and towpath repaired to look like it does at Lock 14 in La Salle and other spots along the canal. He admits the work will probably cost a lot but thinks the first step is getting people together to get a plan in place.

Ottawa council publicly backs medical marijuana cultivation centers and dispensaries

Are you fine with your city being home to a medical marijuana cultivation center or dispensary?

The Ottawa City Council Tuesday night passed resolutions supporting companies trying to open a cultivation center or dispensary in their city. One company is applying for both while two other companies are looking to build a cultivation center and another wants a dispensary.

In the resolutions of support, the council says the cultivation centers and dispensaries are welcome in their community.
