Popular trail back open at Starved Rock

One of the most scenic hikes at Starved Rock State Park is back open after months of storm damage cleanup.

The trail from the Starved Rock Visitor’s Center to St. Louis Canyon opened back up Friday. The bridge from the lodge to St. Louis Canyon is still closed however. Also the parking lot at St. Louis Canyon is still closed.

A company out of the Quad Cities was hired to remove downed trees at Starved Rock following storm damage that happened June 30th.

Crash near Marseilles sends four people to hospitals

Four people were hurt after a crash just north of Marseilles.

La Salle County deputies say Darea Grube of Palos Hills was on North 30th Road when he failed to yield. He collided with Michael Clements of Marseilles just after nine last night. Grube, Clements and his passenger Andrea Mooneyham of Marseilles were all taken to St. Elizabeth Hospital in Ottawa. Grube’s passenger Daniel Grube was taken to Morris Hospital.

Darea Grube was given a ticket for disobeying a stop sign. He was given a court date.

Semi spills load onto county road near Sheridan

A semi spilled its load of rock, brick and construction debris, closing a county road in Sheridan for a couple hours.

La Salle County deputies say Titus McCaa of Chicago was on North 41st Road early Friday morning when he lost control on a curve. The semi ended up on its side, spilling its load onto the road.

McCaa was taken to Valley West Hospital. He was also ticketed for failing to reduce speed to avoid an accident.

Plane crashes near Newark

A small plane crash near Newark sent the two people on board to a hospital.

The crash of the light sport airplane happened Friday  afternoon west of Cushing Field near the La Salle and Kendall County line. Investigators think the plane got tangled in power lines and went down. Over a thousand people living in Newark, Sheridan and Serena lost power.

The National Transportation Safety Board and Federal Aviation Administration is investigating.

Morris man injured during I-80 accident

Road construction began this week on Interstate 80 between Marseilles and Ottawa and already there was a crash.

Kenneth Mack of Morris was injured after police say he hit the semi trailer ahead of him Friday afternoon.   The accident happened near the Marseilles exit and stopped westbound traffic.

Mack was taken to a hospital by helicopter.  His condition wasn’t available.  The semi driver was not harmed. 

It’s being investigated by the Illinois State Police District 17.
