Heavy rain leads to a minor accident

If you were on the road early Friday morning, you probably drove through some heavy showers. It was coming down hard enough to make Allen Delphi of Peru hit the breaks.

Police say Delphi was on Interstate 80 when slowed down because of the weather and was hit from behind by Theodore Burich of Morris. No one was hurt but Burich was ticketed for not slowing down to avoid an accident.

Fifth company wants to a open a cultivation center in Peru

One more company plans to pitch their idea for a medical marijuana cultivation center in Peru. Illinois Support Group wants a special use permit to set up shop in the Casino Bingo Building. They’ll present their plans during a committee of the whole meeting at 6:30pm Monday at the Peru Municipal Building.

Four other companies are applying for a license to grow medical marijuana in Peru. The State Department of Agriculture will decide which one company will be allowed to open in La Salle, Bureau and Putnam Counties.

California pair accused of retail theft in Peru

You may not think of shoplifting as a serious crime but a shoplifting complaint at Kohl’s in Peru has a seven-month-old baby in the care of the Department of Children and Family Services.

Ariana Khair and Hajinne Williams of San Diego, California were arrested for felony retail theft after being pulled over in Mendota yesterday. Peru Police used a description of their car to have them tracked down.  Police also say Khair was driving with a suspended license.

Khair and Williams were taken to the La Salle County Jail and a baby is being watched by DCFS.
