Street projects planned in La Salle

The ride to the La Salle VFW will soon be smoother, at least if you take Donahue Street. Universal Asphalt and Excavating has been hired to place the road for $81,000.

City Engineer Mike Brown says after the road is upgraded it will get another layer of asphalt.

A rough area of Third Street near Arby’s and the Shell station is also being redone by Universal Asphalt for $32,000. Brown says the work will begin as soon as possible.

Attempted murder charge filed after Streator attack

A stabbing in Streator has a man facing an attempted murder charge.

William Milian was indicted Tuesday in La Salle County Court for attempted murder after allegedly stabbing a woman late last month in Streator. The woman was flown to a hospital for treatment.

Besides attempted murder, Milian is also looking at an aggravated battery charge. He’s in the La Salle County Jail on $2 million bond.

Medical marijuana cultivation center proposed for La Salle

Land in La Salle that was the proposed site of a water park is now the proposed site of a medical marijuana cultivation center. 

Bloom Illinois,  LLC is asking for a special use permit for about four acres west of Route 178 and and north of Interstate 80.
The city received the request Tuesday afternoon.   The request  needs to be considered by the planning commission. A hearing date has not been scheduled.

They are the first company to ask La Salle for a special use though other companies have looked at La Salle.

The land is bank owned and is included in a TIF district.
