Ottawa PD replacing squad cars with SUV’s

Posted by wlpo on August 6, 2014

The days of squad cars appears to be numbered with the Ottawa Police Department.  The police department is replacing two old Crown Victoria’s with more than 100,000 miles with a pair of 2015 Ford Explorers.

Ottawa Police Chief Brent Roalson says they like to get new vehicles every two years.  His plan is to eventually have a fleet of SUVs and says the larger vehicles haven’t shown to be that much less fuel efficient than the squad cars.

The new Explorers are $29,000 apiece.  The Ottawa City Council has approved the purchases.

Summer cleaning shutting down the Ottawa Y

Posted by wlpo on August 6, 2014

If you go to the Ottawa Y for a workout, you’ll have to get in shape somewhere else next week.

The Y every year closes for a week to give staff a chance to clean up the building. They’ll deep clean carpets, refinish the gym floors and fix up the swimming pool.

If you send a child to day camp at the Ottawa Y that will be moved to the First Congregational Church in Ottawa.
