Posted by wlpo on August 4, 2014

ATV’s might seem like fun but they can be dangerous. A seven-year-old girl is hospitalized after the ATV she was on collided with a deer.

The crash happened Sunday evening in Lee County. Police say Brian Dees of Amboy had the girl sitting in front of him and the girl’s mother, Cassandra Gray, sitting behind him while they road on Sublette Road. Police say nobody was wearing a helmet.

All of them were taken to Mendota Community Hospital. The girl, Makenzie Rutherford of Amboy was transferred to Rockford Memorial Hospital where she is in critical condition.  Gray and Dees were treated and released in Mendota.

Dees was tickted for operating an ATV on the road. He was also tested for drugs and alcohol but police say the results won’t be available for several weeks.
