Posted by wlpo on August 2, 2014

Oglesby is throwing its hat into the medical marijuana ring.

The city council Monday night will vote whether or not to pass onto the Zoning Board of Appeals a special use permit from Green Thumb Industries. GTI is looking at building a cultivation center near Love’s Travel Stop. City Clerk Becky Clinard says the plan would include a 40,000 square-foot building with plans to expand.

The Illinois Department of Agriculture will eventually pick one cultivation center within the State Police District 17 coverage area. Other medical marijuana companies have already approached Peru and Princeton.

New law targets cyber-bullying in Illinois

Posted by wlpo on August 2, 2014

CHICAGO (AP) – Governor Pat Quinn has extended the state’s ban on student cyberbullying to include actions outside of school.

Quinn signed a bill Friday prohibiting bullying of students via electronic technology even when they’re not in school. It applies to devices that aren’t owned or used by a school.

The new law also requires schools to investigate any act of bullying that disrupts school operations or education processes.

The law takes effect January 1st.
