Spring Valley man injured by a train

Posted by wlpo on July 4, 2014

Train tracks are dangerous, especially in the dark. A 30-year-old man from Spring Valley was flown to Peoria after being found under a train early Friday morning.

Police were called by Iowa Interstate Railroad at 2:09am because the train conductor saw a man lying between the rails of the track about one mile east of Route 89.

The man was found underneath the train. He was suffering from a head injury and was taken to St. Margaret’s Hospital before being flown to St. Francis Medical Center.

At 1:10am, officers were called about a hit and run accident at Erie and Strong Streets. Police believe the man under the train was the one who hit a parked car and walked away, leaving his car behind. The man’s name and condition haven’t been made available.
