La Salle talks about problem properties
Posted by wlpo on July 2, 2014
Yards with overgrown bushes and high weeds and grass are not exclusive to La Salle. Neither are vacant homes in need of repair but these are problems officials want to solve.
Cathy Tomlinson lives next to a vacant apartment building on Sixth Street. She is fed up with the owner’s lack of action and Tuesday night asked the city council to take formal legal action against the owner.
The council agreed. Alderman Jim Bacidore says he wishes they could put the run down houses next to the property owners’ homes.
Alderman Diz Demes thinks it is time they increase the fines for people who don’t cut their yards. He suggested a $125 per hour charge for whenever a yard needs to be trimmed by a city worker.
