Hospital gift pushes Utica Fire Protection District past its fundraising goal for ambulance

Posted by wlpo on June 24, 2014

Thanks to the generosity of the Illinois Valley, the Utica Fire Protection District has reached its fundraising goal to pay for a new ambulance and equipment.

Fire Chief Ben Brown says a $1,000 donation from the Illinois Valley Community Hospital Foundation pushes them to their $180,000 goal. Brown’s department started raising money last April.

The new ambulance is replacing a 1996 ambulance which they’ve sold to an Iowa fire department. Brown says they’ll have a dedication ceremony for the ambulance July 12th. At that time they’ll honor longtime paramedic Shelba Bimm who died last year.
