Handful of couples taking advantage of same-sex marriage in La Salle County

Posted by wlpo on June 4, 2014

People aren’t beating down the doors in La Salle County but there are couples taking advantage of the new same-sex marriage law.

The county clerk’s office has converted five civil union licenses to marriage licenses since Monday morning. The first couple to convert their civil union into a marriage license was Laura Imes and Kathleen Haralson of Seneca. They were at the office in Ottawa just minutes after it opened Monday morning.

The first same-sex couple to get a marriage license that weren’t already in a civil union was two men from Chicago.
