Health officials warn about dangers of tick bites

When the weather warms up, you worry about mosquitoes and West Nile Virus. But how much do you know about the dangers of “Tickborne Disease”?

The La Salle County Health Department says cases of Lyme Disease which comes from ticks has increased over recent years. Last year there was a dozen cases of Lyme Disease compared to just four the year before.

Your best defense against tick bites is to avoid walking in weeds, use repellent like DEET and check your pets for ticks. The most common signs of Lyme Disease are fevers, chills, aches and a rash.
