Much publicized pit bull recovery coming with high cost in La Salle

If you’ve been following the story of a pit bull hit near Interstate 39 and Route 6 after allegedly being abandoned, the dog is recovering after surgery.

According to Illinois Valley Animal Rescue, Mayday the pit bull had his back leg amputated after suffering a broken leg and hip May 1. He’s recovering but IVAR officials say medical bills have piled up over $5,000.

Donations bring needed equipment to L-P classrooms

Everything from new sports uniforms to iPads are coming to L-P thanks to donations throughout the year.

The L-P Foundation and Booster Club are buying $48,000 worth of things for the school as part of their annual grant donations.

The L-P Booster Club is buying over $34,000 in uniforms and equipment for sports teams. The foundation is buying over $14,000 worth of equipment for the school including: a new kiln for the art department; microscopes for the science department; calculators for the special ed department; iPads for the business department; a camera for the English department and a weightlifting rack for PE.

Earlier in the year the L-P Foundation also gave back $15,000 towards renovating the sound system at Matthiessen Auditorium.

DeKalb County drug bust involves Marseilles man

A Marseilles man could be spending plenty of time in DeKalb County after an early morning drug bust.

Deputies say William Asbury IV was riding in a vehicle that was pulled over this morning on Route 38 near DeKalb. Investigators say they found cocaine, illegal mushrooms and a large amount of suspected drug money inside the vehicle.

Asbury and two others with him, one person from Bolingbrook and another from Wisconsin were arrested for possession of a controlled substance. All three were taken to the DeKalb County Jail.

Missing money prompts a firing and lawsuit with the Grundy County Health Department

MORRIS, Ill. (AP) – A former Grundy County Health Department bookkeeper is free on bond after being charged with theft and official misconduct.

Renae Chronister is accused of stealing $47,041 over a period from January 1st, 2010 to May 21st, 2012. She turned herself in Wednesday and posted $5,000 bond.

After being fired from the health department last year, Chronister threatened to sue the county and the Board of Health. An investigation was prompted by indications cash was being recorded within the health department, but not being deposited with the Grundy County Treasurer’s office.
