L-P Superintendent addresses prom controversy

Posted by wlpo on May 9, 2014

When you were in high school having headache medicine in your purse wasn’t a problem but that’s not allowed any more at LP High School.

A senior at LP High School was recently suspended for allegedly having an inhaler and an over-the-counter medicine according to the girl’s grandmother. Kathy Slover, in a letter that was printed in Wednesday’s NewsTribune, said administrators went too far.

LP Superintendent Steve Wrobleski told Classic Hits 103-9 WLPO Thursday that he couldn’t speak specifically about the student but said administrators want to be consistent with their medication policy. In her letter, Slover wrote that her granddaughter was forced to miss prom and would also have to miss graduation. Wrobleski says it’s true that a student on suspension wouldn’t be allowed to attend a dance but they would be allowed to attend graduation.

Slover later told Classic Hits 103-9 WLPO that they assumed a 30-day suspension from all school activities would include graduation. Slover says what’s done is done and they can’t replace the prom for her granddaughter.
