Rezin backs disaster grant legislation

Posted by wlpo on April 9, 2014

Counties, cities and schools would be reimbursed for some of the cost of cleaning up after a disaster under a bill that has passed the Illinois Senate.

It allows the Illinois Emergency Management Agency to give disaster assistance grants for debris removal and emergency protective measures in counties declared a disaster area by the governor.

State Senator Sue Rezin, a Republican who represents La Salle County, is one of the co-sponsors.

The grants money would come from the Disaster Assistance to Local Governments Fund.   The House still needs to vote on it.
