IDOT explains plans for new Spring Valley bridge

Posted by wlpo on April 9, 2014

You will be able to take Route 89 between Bureau and Putnam Counties even as a new bridge is built across the Illinois River. Engineers from the Illinois Department of Transportation displayed the latest plans for a new Route 89 bridge during a public hearing Wednesday at Spring Valley City Hall.

Mayor Walt Marini was there and said the city is lucky the bridge will remain open.  IDOT plans to build the new bridge to the east of the old one so you can still cross the river during construction.

Ted Fultz of IDOT says the next phase of the project is developing more detailed plans so they can go out for bids and acquiring land. He says it will be 18 to 24 months before they are ready for the final phase: construction.

The new bridge will be wider and the approaches will be elevated by several feet so hopefully flooding won’t be a problem.

If you have a comment about IDOT’s plans, they’ll be taking comments until April 24.
