No Rush To Issue Gay Marriage Licenses In La Salle County

Posted by wlpo on March 12, 2014

Gay marriage licenses won’t be available in La Salle County until the statewide ban on same-sex marriage ends June 1st.

Although other counties have started issuing gay marriage licenses following a ruling that the ban on same-sex marriage was unconstitutional in Cook County, County Clerk JoAnn Carretto says they will wait until June.  She says while forms are ready to go, some software still needs tweaking.

Carretto says she hasn’t got a request from anyone yet asking for a same-sex marriage license.  Her office handed out seven civil union licenses last year.

Even if you can’t get a gay marriage license in Ottawa, you and your mate can get legally married in Cook County.
