Spring Valley Economic Director hopes new year will bring new use to former factory

There’s a building sitting empty in Spring Valley that would be ideal for a new manufacturer. The old Honeywell-Hobbs factory hasn’t been used since 2010 and it is a building Spring Valley Economic Development Director Deb Ladgenski would like to see sold. She says the Illinois EPA has cleared the property for contamination. She would like to see it go on the market. It’s still owned by Honeywell.
Another old industrial site that’s returning to use is the former Bassick’s property. It will be the home of a new Sullivan’s Grocery Store. Ladgenski says site work and engineering work are underway and construction is expected to begin in March or April. The store could open in fall 2014.
