State Jobless Rate On The Upswing

Posted by wlpo on November 23, 2013

Illinois’ unemployment rate is down.

It comes in at 8.9 percent for October, down from 9.1 in September, as the state added 25,700 jobs over the last two months. Unemployment is down 12,000 over the last month to 579,000 eligible workers who are not working.

The government shutdown in October caused the unemployment reports to skip a month. There was an expectation that the shutdown would harm the economy too, but the actual damage turned out to be slight.
