Peru City Council hires retired judge to investigate no-show overtime hours

Posted by wlpo on November 18, 2013

Overtime hours are great if you can get them, but you would think you would be required you to work them.  That may not have been the case with a city employee or employees in Peru and the city council wants to know what was happening.

After two closed session meetings about it, the question of employees earning overtime for hours not worked was discussed openly Monday night.

Alderman Dave Potthoff says City Clerk Dave Bartley brought it to their attention.   He wants to know who authorized the over time that wasn’t work and how much it cost the city.  He says the overtime was done outside of the city’s rules and the union contract.

The council agreed to hire retired Judge William Balestri to investigate it.  Council members insisted that they schedule a time to meet with Baslestri later this week to explain for what they’re looking.

From there, they could use the findings of Balestri to give to either the La Salle County State’s Attorney or the Illinois Attorney General’s office if they choose.
