Craft sale to benefit La Salle County Child Advocacy Center

Posted by wlpo on November 6, 2013

The last thing you want for your child is for them to be the victim of sexual abuse but if it happens there’s a local agency that exclusively serves children and their families.  The La Salle County Child Advocacy Center helps an estimated 100 children a year according to its Executive Director Laurie McLaughlin.

McLaughlin says they provide a confidential and safe place for the children to be interviewed for criminal investigation.  They work with the police departments, states attorney’s office, and the Department of Children and Family Services.

The house doesn’t even having a sign advertising what services they provide for the family’s safety and confidentiality.  The victim’s family pays nothing for the service.

McLaughlin says they stay afloat thanks to state grants, the Illinois Valley United Way and fundraisers.  Their next fundraiser is a craft and vendor fair Saturday from 9am-3pm at the Oglesby Elks.

You can learn more about the center and the fundraiser by listening to an interview that’s available at the WLPO AM and FM news page.
