McKinley Park to be new home for ice skating rink in Peru

Posted by wlpo on October 16, 2013

The softball field at McKinley Park in Peru is quiet this time of year, but it could be a busy spot when the weather turns colder.  City officials are hoping the outfield will be level enough so they can set up the ice skating rink there this winter.

The rink was at Veteran’s Park last year though the ice sometimes wasn’t also useable because of the temperature.

City Engineer Sean Mikos wants to set the rink up after the grass has gone dormant and take it down earlier enough next year so they don’t kill the grass.

Alderman Rodney Perez says McKinley will be a good place for the rink because it has lights and restrooms and you already go their for sledding.
