Area Veterans Wait Out Delay Before Flying To D.C. Memorials

Posted by wlpo on October 3, 2013

A flight to take area veterans out to Washington D.C. was delayed not by a government shutdown but by an owl.

Around 90 veterans waiting to go on an “Honor Flight” trip to see the World War Two and other memorials in their honor had their flight delayed by three hours this morning after an owl flew into their planes engine.  The plane was on its way to pick up the veterans in the Quad Cities from Minnesota.

The plane landed safely and was inspected before the veterans took off from the Quad Cities just before 10:30.  They landed just before noon central time.

“Honor Flight of the Quad Cities” was formed in 2008 to get WWII veterans out to see memorials in their honor in Washington D.C.  The Quad Cities honor flight takes veterans from a 75-mile radius.
