Peru pool fundraising group takes their cause online

Posted by wlpo on August 12, 2013

If you were new to Peru, you would never realize that there use to be a swimming pool at Washington Park.  The group Friends for Peru Pool is trying to keep the memory of the pool alive with a new website, www.letsswimagain.com.

The swimming pool was last used in 2009.  It never opened in 2010 after a controversial move by the mayor and city council. They feared the pool and bathhouse were not up to code.  The bathhouse was torn down earlier this year.

The group has been taking donations to pay for a new pool ever since.  So far they’ve collected just over $100,000.  A new pool is estimated to cost several million dollars.

You can see a drawing of what they would like a new pool to look like or donate money by visiting their website.

A drowning at a private Seneca marina is under investigation.

Seneca Police Chief Ray Meglan says 73-year old Thomas Enright of Wauconda was found dead floating Friday night at Mariners’ Village and Marina in Seneca.  Meglan doesn’t think foul play is involved and says Enright suffered from medical issues.

An autopsy was done confirming Enright drowned.  Enright had a summer home at the marina.
