Construction Planned For Plank Road

A stretch of Plank Road in Peru will be closed to traffic starting Monday morning.

The road will be closed south of the airport entrance next Monday thru Friday.  You’ll still be able to get to the airport but only from the north end of Plank Road.

Crews will be patching section of the road.

Two Hurt In Crash Near Wyanet

A crash west of Wyanet sent two area men to a hospital.

Zachary Skaggs of Princeton and Jason Dunn of La Salle crashed into each other yesterday morning on Route 40 in Bureau County.  Both were taken to Perry Memorial Hospital.

Skaggs was ticketed for passing in a no-passing zone and failing to reduce speed to avoid an accident.

92-Year Old Tied Up And Robbed In Ottawa

Ottawa Police are investigating a report of a 92-year old woman being tied up and burglarized.

A 911 call came in around 4 this morning from the woman who investigators say was able to free herself after the suspect or suspects ransacked her home and left.  Ottawa Police Chief Brent Roalson says the woman wasn’t hurt and no weapons were shown.

The home invasion happened in the 1600 block of West Jackson Street.  Roalson says there’s no reason for others in the area to be alarmed because this morning’s incident was isolated.

Sweet Corn Festival Back In Mendota

A young woman will be crowned tonight in Mendota.  The annual Sweet Corn Festival continues today.  The food and merchandise stands open at 11.  The carnival opens at noon.

The pageant is at eight but if that’s not your thing, you can listen to the band playing by the beer garden.  Music starts at 7:30 and goes until midnight.

Tomorrow brings a 5K run and a bags tournament.  The festival wraps up Sunday in downtown Mendota.

Demolition Crews Make Way For New La Salle Convenience Store

A longtime eyesore is gone in La Salle.

The old Jackson Water Care building along Third Street in La Salle was demolished yesterday.  Before that crews had already taken down a vacant gas station and two homes along Bucklin Street.

A new Beck’s Convenience Store is supposed to open on the property before the years over.

Congressman Talks Energy In Peru

Your congressman spent part of his vacation in Peru talking energy issues.

Republican Adam Kinzinger was driving around his district yesterday talking to people and businesses about energy costs and production.  Kinzinger stopped at Beck’s in Peru to get a feel from people how gas prices are affecting their summer plans.  The congressman also stopped at Peru’s hydroelectric power station and talked with Mayor Scott Harl about energy production.

The U.S. Congress is on recess.  Kinzinger serves on the Energy and Commerce Committee in Washington, D.C.
