Investigation Continues Into Robbery And K9 Death

More information is expected today on a cellphone robbery and subsequent crash that killed the Peru drug dog.

A 911 call went out Saturday night around 6:45 about an armed robbery at the Verizon Store off Route 251 in Peru.  Store employees and investigators say two men made off with thousands of dollars of inventory.  The robbers got away in a blue van.

When responding to the robbery, Peru’s K9 handler was involved in a crash on Wenzel Road and Route 251.  The drug dog Kali was taken to a vet after the crash and pronounced dead.  She had joined the police force last fall.
