The east end of First Street in La Salle is usually quiet after dark but that wasn’t the case early Sunday morning. Police were called to Club 55 for a fight outside of the bar. Troy Lucas of Peru was arrested for two counts of battery and was given a notice to appear.

Culvert replacement to begin Monday

It’s a busy time of the year for the La Salle County Highway Department and it could affect your ride to work. Beginning Monday East 3rd Road in Dimmick Township will be closed a half a mile north of North 31st Road for culvert replacement. The job is expected to take three weeks.
You won’t see a detour posted but you should plan on taking a different route.
And a stretch of North 4550th Road in Earl Township will be closed Monday for resurfacing. Again, a detour won’t be posted.

Peru Police dog dies after crash

There’s a sidebar story to the phone store robbery Saturday night involving the death of a Peru police K9. The K9 unit was responding to the robbery call at the Verizon store when it was hit by another car at 36th Street and Route 251. The officer driving the squad only had minor injuries, however, the dog Kali – was tossed from the car and later died from her injuries. . Kali, joined the Peru Police Department last fall. The other wasn’t ticketed.

Peru Verizon store robbed

The day after a Verizon Wireless Store in Peru was robbed at gunpoint, the men accused have not been arrested.
The “Digital Store” next to Staples was robbed of nearly $400,000 in inventory Saturday night. Peru Police Sgt. Hocking told WLPO AM and FM News that the robbery was reported at about 6:45pm.
A man working at the store says the men took phones, IPads and more. The robbery took an estimated 10 minutes.
The men were described as black and were possibly driving a blue van. Immediately following the robbery, police began trying to track the location of the stolen phones. It’s also believed the men were at the nearby Target and AT&T store prior to the robbery.
