Posted by wlpo on June 26, 2013

A carnival is coming to Oglesby and if you can’t handle a ride on the Tilt-a-Whirl anymore don’t worry; there will plenty of entertainment for both children and adults.

Oglesby Summer Fun Fest really gets underway Thursday at the swimming pool near the Elk’s Lodge.  There you’ll find food stands, rides, and a beer garden.  The music includes a Johny Cash tribute performance at 8pm.

During the afternoon, a farmer’s market will be set up downtown from 3-6pm.

Citywide garage sales will be Friday and Saturday mornings.  The Art Sarver Memorial 3 Mile Run is Saturday morning.  Dreamwave Wrestling and a wine tasting are Sunday.

Food pantry needs cereal

Posted by wlpo on June 26, 2013

What do kids like to have for breakfast?  Cereal.  The Hall Township Food Pantry is running low on cereal.  If you could spare a couple of boxes it would be appreciated.  Next to cereal, the pantry could use hamburger.

The pantry sees an increase demand for food during the summer while kids are out of school.  Donations can be left at the pantry on North Terry Street.

Bill Brady Will Run Again For Governor

Posted by wlpo on June 26, 2013

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. (AP) – State Sen. Bill Brady is making a third bid to be Illinois governor.

The Bloomington Republican writes on his campaign website Tuesday that he isn’t giving up on Illinois despite the state’s serious fiscal challenges. He plans to formally announce the move today at appearances across the state. He’ll start in Chicago and end the day at a Bloomington restaurant.

Brady joins an already crowded 2014 Republican field. Illinois Treasurer Dan Rutherford of Chenoa and Chicago businessman Bruce Rauner both have already announced bids in the March 8 primary.

Brady narrowly emerged as the Republican primary victor in 2010. Democratic Gov. Pat Quinn defeated him by less than one percent of 3.6 million votes.
