New charity to benefit people with MS

Posted by wlpo on June 23, 2013

The odds are good that you know someone who has multiple sclerosis.  But you may not realize the financial hardship it can be.

A woman from Peru who has MS along with her husband and sister are part of a new charity that’s raising money to help local people who have MS.  It’s called Illinois Valley Legion Against Lesions. Jacci Pavy says the group came about because they wanted to do something to help other local people with MS.

Pavy says the medication for treating MS is expensive.  People with MS may also have to have MRI’s or be hospitalized.  She says some people don’t have insurance or other resources.  It could also affect a person’s ability to work.

If you would like to help Legion Against Lesions, they’re holding their first big fundraising raffle.  First place wins a stay in Florida and a $500 gift card to put towards travel expenses.  Tickets are $5 and on sale at Big Boys Tires, the Peru Eagles Club, Beau Dogs, and Dj’s Carpet Outlet.

You can learn more about Illinois Valley Legion Against Lesions by listening to an interview available at the WLPO AM and FM news page.

Teske veered his Freightliner truck into the center median, struck some wires then went across the westbound lanes rolling over in the ditch. Two passengers – a Wausau man and woman in their mid 50’s were not hurt. All were wearing seatbelts. Teske was ticketed for improper lane usage.
