Malcolm Avenue work to begin Thursday

          Road work begins Thursday on Malcolm Avenue in La Salle.  The street is being widened.  The contractor plans to prime the road with oil before laying a new surface.  If it’s dry, work will start Thursday morning.  It’s expected to take two days.  You should avoid the work area.

Storms bring rain and strong winds to the region

          It turned into a stormy Wednesday afternoon for north central Illinois.  A storm that passed through La Salle County during the 5 o’clock hour brought heavy rain, strong winds and small hail.

The National Weather Service issued several Severe Thunderstorm Warnings and Tornado Warnings for La Salle, Lee, Dekalb and surrounding counties but there were no reports of damage. 

Ameren reported power outages in Newark and Ladd. 

There was a Tornado Watch for La Salle and surrounding counties until 9pm Wednesday.

Bottom Road Crash Injures Two

Two people were hurt in a crash on Route 89 south of Spring Valley.

The Putnam County Sheriff’s Office says Andrew Biewer of Oglesby pulled out in front of a semi driven by Alvin Near of Mendota just after 5 Tuesday afternoon.  Biewer and his passenger Vincente Acosta of DePue were taken to St. Margaret’s Hospital.

Charges are pending.

Minonk Woman Killed In I-39 Crash

A woman from Minonk is dead after trying to make a U-turn on Interstate 39.

24-year old Kendra Guengrich was pronounced dead at the scene just after 5:30 Tuesday morning.  The McLean County Coroner’s office says Guengrich was hit by a semi after she made a U-turn near Hudson on I-39.

Her passenger, Daniel Ridgeway of Normal was taken to a hospital in Normal.  The semi driver from St. Louis wasn’t injured.

Madigan Still Coy On Run For Governor

CHICAGO (AP) – Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan says she is still “very seriously considering” running for governor in 2014.

Madigan spoke to reporters Tuesday, after former White House chief of staff Bill Daley announced he’ll challenge Gov. Pat Quinn in a Democratic primary. Madigan is a Chicago Democrat and the daughter of powerful House Speaker Michael Madigan.

She hasn’t indicated when she might announce her plans.
