Princeton’s Womens Healthcare Center closing

Delivering babies is among the critical services provided by a hospital. It seems a “perfect storm” had developed forcing Perry Memorial Hospital to announce the closure of their women’s healthcare unit by January 1. Perry Memorial CEO Rex Conger issued the announcement Friday. With medical reimbursement losses of 500 thousand last year and a shrinking pool of Bureau County women of child-bearing age, Conger said Perry was forced to close the Princeton hospital’s women’s healthcare unit. A dozen employees will get top consideration for other openings at the hospital and be given the rest of the year to upgrade their medical training. Those who don’t find another job at Perry by 2014 will be eligible for unemployment. Conger says no severance packages will be available.
