DePue teen accused of having drugs in La Salle

          An afternoon at Hegeler Park in La Salle turned into a felony drug charge after police allegedly had to go running after a teen.   

Police say Kyle Pratt of DePue ran away from the officers when they tried to do a parole search Sunday at the park.  While he was running, police say Pratt tried ditching a small amount of marijuana and crack cocaine.

          Pratt was arrested for possession of a controlled substance, a lesser marijuana related charge and obstructing police.  He was taken to the La Salle County Jail.

Nursing home employees on strike in Ottawa

Workers at Ottawa Pavilion are on strike.  Members of Laborer’s Local 393 were picketing outside of the nursing home Saturday, day one of the strike.

Officials at Ottawa Pavilion say the nursing home, the union, and a federal mediator met for five hours Friday with no deal.  The company says they’re disagreeing on salaries.

The people living in the nursing home are being cared for by employees still on the job and replacement workers.

Woman accused of drunken driving during crash

Alcohol is suspected in a crash south of Ottawa that sent a woman and a child to the hospital.

It happened Friday morning on Route 23.  Deborah Werner of Ottawa was arrested for DUI and improper lane usage after police say she crossed the center line and hit Jay Nettleingham of Streator.

Werner and an eight year old in Nettleingham’s car were taken to St. Elizabeth’s Medical Center in Ottawa.  Werner was taken to the La Salle County Jail after getting released from the hospital.

Tough Mudder to bring thousands of competitors to Seneca

Know anyone who’s doing the “Tough Mudder” competition this weekend in Seneca?  Thousands are expected to attempt to finish the over 10-mile obstacle course.

The “Tough Mudder” is a national event where individuals and teams train to complete a course designed by British Special Forces.  People who sign up have to sign a so-called “death waiver”.

Through all the toughness, the event also helps to raise money for the Wounded Warrior Project.

Registration for the “Tough Mudder” is closed but you can pay to watch.  Keep in mind that parking isn’t allowed in Seneca.  It’s all off-site at the Chicagoland Speedway in Joliet.

Oglesby couple accused of stealing electricity

You try to help out your neighbor but you have to draw a line.  Julie and Charles Niemiec of Oglesby were arrested for theft after their neighbor complained of them stealing electricity Friday.  Police say the couple was using an extension cord to steal electricity from a neighboring apartment.  They were given notices to appear.
