Governor Releases His Tax Returns

CHICAGO (AP) – Gov. Pat Quinn has released his 2012 federal and state income tax returns, which show the only money he earned was his governor’s salary of $160,421 and a taxable refund of $1,203.

Quinn’s returns indicate the governor paid $28,400 in federal and $7,716 in state income taxes last year. They also show the governor paid $4,052 in property taxes on his West Side Chicago home.

According to the returns, Quinn donated $7,535 to charity, and an additional $170 through voluntary check-offs on his state income tax return.

Dam In Lake DePue’s Future?

Remember not that long ago when there was a drought that almost cancelled the DePue Boat Races? Village officials hope a dam can stop this from becoming an issue again.

The village has applied to the Illinois Department of Natural Resources to build a temporary dam connecting Lake DePue with the Illinois River.  If approved the dam would be for two and a half years.  After that the village could decide if a permanent dam is the way to go.

A dam could regulate the water level in Lake DePue meaning they wouldn’t have to scramble like they did last year to have enough water for the boat races.  Village officials hope donations can pay for the dam.
