La Salle County Passes Moratorium On Sand Mines
Posted by wlpo on April 11, 2013
Do you think sand mine development in La Salle County should be slowed down or stopped altogether? It was a topic of at Thursday’s La Salle County Board meeting.
The board unanimously approved an ordinance that places a moratorium on sand mines in rural La Salle County until November 1st. County Development Director Mike Harsted says that should give the county time to update it’s comprehensive plan addressing sand mines and other development. The comprehensive plan was last updated in 2008.
Harsted says he hasn’t gotten any other sand mine requests besides from Mississippi Sand which plans to mine this year west of Starved Rock State Park.
