possible suicide?

The discovery of a woman’s body in Putnam County Friday evening is believed to be the result of a self inflicted gunshot wound. The Putnam County Sheriff’s office identified her as 31-year old Emily Dunn of Lake Thunderbird. Responding to a 9-1-1 call about 6:40pm Friday, deputies and EMTs found Dunn on the ground along Lake Thunderbird drive and pronounced her dead at the scene from a bullet wound. An autopsy was scheduled for Saturday. The county death investigator and the State Police Crime Scene Services are assisting in the investigation.

immigration bill template?

A reported draft of an immigration bill prepared by the White House lays out an eight-year process for illegal immigrants to become legal permanent residents. USA Today says the bill would allow illegal immigrants in the U.S. to apply for newly created “Lawful Prospective Immigrant” visas. It would also require businesses to verify the immigration status of new hires within four years. The White House says a final immigration bill has not been prepared.

This cop wasn’t acting

A Chicago police officer hanging onto the hood of a suspect’s van after nearly being run over fired into the vehicle and wounded the driver. Fraternal Order of Police spokesman Pat Camden says the incident took place on the city’s West Side late yesterday morning. The driver was hospitalized in critical condition. The officer had injuries to his foot.

Just Hire One Job Fair

With unemployment high locally, a job fair should be a popular destination. The “Just Hire One” Job Fair is at the Southtowne Ottawa Mall 9 until noon Wednesday. Around 30 businesses, including Starved Rock Lodge, FedEx, OfficeMax, James Hardie, La Salle County Broadcasting and Illinois Valley Community College will interview potential employees. Officials with area chambers of commerce, employment teams like NCI Works and BEST, Inc. and the La Salle County Board are backing the new employment effort called “Just Hire One”. Pam Furlan with BEST, or Business Employment Skills Team says if every business in La Salle County with at least 10 workers hires one more, the county’s jobless rate would fall by over a one percent.

another house fire

A fire early Saturday evening at 52 Victoria Drive in LaSalle was contained to the attic of the split level house. Lt. Brian Zeller with LaSalle Fire Department said the call came at 6:13pm and they were at the scene for 90 minutes. The occupants got out safely and are believed to be still living there. The cause is unknown, according to Zeller, as is the damage estimate. Ten firemen and two engies responded along with assistance from Peru and Utica.
