Local food pantry asking for five donations

Look around your kitchen and see if there are a few cans of food or boxes of pasta with which you could part.  The Hall Township Food Pantry needs food.  They’re asking that you give them five food items and then tell five people to do the same.

They could especially use canned meat, stews and soups, peanut butter and jelly; pasta, cereals, boxed meal helpers and bottled water.

Suspected cocaine dealers arrested in Streator

          A sting to catch drug dealers in the Illinois Valley has left a man and a woman from Streator in jail.  Nicole Dunning and Michael Magana were arrested Friday after allegedly selling cocaine to somebody working with the police.

          It was part of a TRIDENT investigation. 

          Dunning and Magana were charged with unlawful possession and delivery of a controlled substance and were being held at the La Salle County Jail.

McGraw Headed To Peru

County star Tim McGraw will be the next “concert for a cause” in Peru.

The singer and sometimes actor will play the Illinois Valley Regional Airport Saturday, July 6th.  Ticket information hasn’t been announced yet.

Rising country singer Brantley Gilbert will be at the airport Saturday, August 3rd.  That’s also part of Lou’s La Grotto’s Concerts for a Cause series.

Heating Assistance Still Available

If you need a helping hand paying for heating bills, you can still apply for assistance.

The state’s Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program or LIHEAP is available for anyone who meets certain income requirements.  A single person qualifies for assistance if monthly income is under 14 hundred dollars.  A family of four qualifies for LIHEAP is the monthly income is under 29 hundred dollars. The energy funds go until May 31st or until they run out.

The Tri-County Opportunities Council in Dixon is the local LIHEAP office.
