Second Concerts of a Cause performer almost announced

Could another country music star being coming to Peru this July?  Merry Noonan of Lou’s La Grotto’s Concerts for A Cause has already announced that Brantley Gilbert will be performing on August 3. 

The restaurant in Peru has been dropping hints on their Facebook page as to who will be performing during another show scheduled for July 6.  The post Friday read, “Save the date July 6, truck yeah.”

A formal announcement is expected in the coming days. Both concerts will be held at the Illinois Valley Regional Airport in Peru.

New IVCC Trustee Named

A man from Streator who unsuccessfully ran for the Illinois Valley Community College board has been appointed as a trustee.

Everett Solon was picked among four candidates to fill out the remaining two years of Leslie Anne Englehaupt’s term.  Solon ran for the board in 2011 after being a longtime board president at Streator High School.  Right now he’s the Centrue Bank Market President.  Solon is already involved with IVCC being on the steering committee for the Peter Miller Community Technology Center capital campaign.

His first meeting as an IVCC trustee is Tuesday, February 19th.

Gas Prices Heading Up

If you’re planning a weekend drive, be prepared to dig a little deeper into your wallet or purse.

Gas prices in La Salle and Peru jumped at most stations yesterday from $3.59 to $3.69 a gallon.  Prices in Streator appear to be the lowest in La Salle County at $3.52 a gallon according to GasBuddy.com.

The statewide average for unleaded is $3.77 a gallon.  The national average is $3.53 a gallon.

Sheffield Village Hall Added To National Historic List

If you’re a history buff, check out the Sheffield Village Hall.

The 103-year old building has been added to the National Register of Historic Places.  Historic Preservation officials say the Sheffield Village Hall is historic because of its architectural style and its connection to one of the most successful architects of the 19th century, George Franklin Barber.

The historic village hall was built in 1910 at a cost of just over ten thousand dollars.  Being on the national register means preservation funds are available for the Sheffield building.

Time To Shave Heads For Cancer Research

150 people have already signed up to have their heads shaved in Ottawa, all in the name of childhood cancer research.

The annual St. Baldrick’s Fundraiser is happening Saturday, March 9th at Jeremiah Joe Coffee in downtown Ottawa.  Among the dozens of people cutting hair to raise money  is the local St. Baldrick’s organizer, Rita Chovan.   Honored child cancer survivors of the 10th annual St. Baldrick’s event are Annabelle Threadgill and Ryan Dillon.
