2012 deer harvest down from 2011

          The numbers are in from all of the 2012 deer hunting seasons in Illinois.   Hunters shot fewer deer last year than in 2011, with a total estimated just less than 181,000.

          In Bureau County, hunters got less than 2500 total.  About 2,450 deer were shot in La Salle County and 911 in Putnam County.

Two of the top Illinois counties for deer harvesting were Fulton and Pike counties.

Expert on child internet safety and abuse prevent to speak at Parkside School

          Computers and smart phones are great tools for your children to have but they come with risks that could affect your children for a lifetime.

An expert on student safety and wellness in terms of sexual abuse prevention will be speaking to parents Wednesday night at Parkside School in Peru. 

Katie Koestner will focus on Internet safety for children.  She’s the Executive Director of Campus Outreach Services. 

Parents from all school districts are encouraged to her Koestner speak.  The program starts at 7p.m. Parkside’s gymnasium and is free.

Winter Storm Watch issued for Sunday

          Going somewhere Sunday?  Carefully consider your plans especially if you’ll be driving.  The National Weather says there will be a Winter Storm Watch Sunday morning through late Sunday night.

          Freezing rain and temperatures just above freezing are predicted for most of Sunday.  That could leave roads and sidewalks dangerously slick.  They’re predicting a quarter of an inch of ice.
