Flu Keeping At Least One Area Hospital Busy

Posted by wlpo on January 13, 2013

The flu bug continues to hit the Illinois Valley hard and the entire country for that matter.

Illinois Valley Community Hospital’s Infection Control Nurse Deb Patyk says they’re seeing a steady stream of people either being diagnosed with the flu or flu-like symptoms.  She says they’ve admitted a few patients with the flu and are doing their best to separate them from everyone else.

Patyk says they don’t require staff to get a flu shot but strongly encourage it.  She says about 3/4ths of IVCH employees have gotten the shot.

IVCH has restricted visitations.  People younger than 18 are not allowed to visit patients.  Patients may have up to two visitors at a time. Patyk says if you start feeling sick with the stomach flu and not the respiratory flu, first call your doctor or go to an immediate care before rushing to the emergency room.
